We are going to build on the strip piecing techniques from last week with Block 2, Four Patch Chain.

You will need 2 colors and a background fabric.

Fabric A - Color 1

Fabric B - Color 2

Fabric C - Background

Cutting:

Fabric A & B  -  Cut 1 – 2 ½” x 10” rectangle

Fabric A & B - Cut 1 – 2 ½” x 5” rectangle

Fabric C - Cut 2 – 2 ½” x 10”

Fabric C - Cut 4 – 4 ½” squares

Sewing:

Sew a Fabric C 2 ½” x 10” rectangle to a Fabric A 2 ½” x 10” rectangle. Press toward Fabric A. Sew a Fabric C 2 ½” x 10” rectangle to a Fabric B 2 ½” x 10” rectangle. Press toward Fabric B.

Cut the above strip sets into 4 – 2 ½” x 4 ½” segments.

Sew these segments into 2 Fabric A Four Patches and 2 Fabric B Four Patches.

Sew the Fabric A 2 ½” x 5” rectangle to the Fabric B 2 ½” x 5” rectangle. Press toward Fabric A.

Cut the above strip set into 2 – 2 ½” x 4 ½” segments.

Sew these segments into a Four Patch.

Complete the block by placing your Four Patch blocks and Background squares as shown creating the chain design.

Sew the blocks together into 3 rows and press seams toward Fabric C squares.

Sew the 3 rows together to complete the block. Press seams in one direction.

Congratulations, you completed Block 2.

Don’t forget to post a picture of your block on the Ruth’s Stitchery Facebook page to be entered into January’s drawing.
