Are you ready to begin our Block of the Week Quilt-A-Long? Weekly patterns will be available every Monday morning here on our blog. We will link the patterns on our weekly emails and on our Facebook page.
All blocks will be 12 1/2" unfinished blocks. When the 52 weeks are completed, you will be able to make one large quilt or several smaller quilts. If you enrolled in our Block of the Week Fat Quarter bundles, the bundles will be available for you to pick up on the first Monday of each month. If you are using your own fabrics for these blocks, we would love to see them. Post your pictures on our Facebook page (we will be doing a drawing at the end of each month for all of those who post pictures of their blocks)
We are starting off with a Nine Patch Block, using a simple strip piecing technique.
You will need 2 colors and a background fabric.
Fabric A - Color 1
Fabric B - Color 2
Fabric C - Background
Fabric A - Cut 2 – 4 ½” x 9" rectangles
Fabric B - Cut 1 – 4 ½” square
Fabric C - Cut 1 – 4 ½” x 9” and Cut 2 – 4 ½” squares
Sew the Fabric A 4 ½” x 9” rectangles to both sides of Fabric C 4 ½” x 9” rectangle. Press toward Fabric A.
Cut the above unit in half into 2 – 4 ½” x 12 ½” strips.
Sew the Fabric C 4 ½” squares to both sides of Fabric B 4 ½” square. Press toward Fabric B.
Complete the block by laying your strips out as shown. Sew the rows together and press seams in one direction.
And just like that you have completed Block 1!
Don’t forget to post a picture of your block on the Ruth’s Stitchery Facebook page to be entered into January's drawing.
