Block of the Week 46 Courthouse Steps

Courthouse Steps is a quick and easy block using several fabric colors. As you add strips, press away from the center. This is a great block to test the accuracy of your 1/4" seam allowance. I will give you measurements for sections of your block so you can make sure your seam allowance is accurate.

You will need 7 colors.

Fabric A - Color 1

Fabric B - Color 2

Fabric C - Color 3

Fabric D - Color 4

Fabric E - Color 5

Fabric F - Color 6

Fabric G - Color 7

Cutting:

Fabric A - Cut 1 - 3 1/2" square

Fabric B - Cut 2 - 2" x 3 1/2" rectangles

Fabric C - Cut 2 - 2" x 6 1/2" rectangles

Fabric D - Cut 2 - 2" x 6 1/2" rectangles

Fabric E - Cut 2 - 2" x 9 1/2" rectangles

Fabric F - Cut 2 - 2" x 9 1/2" rectangles

Fabric G - Cut 2 - 2" x 12 1/2" rectangles

Sewing:

Begin with Fabric A Center Square and the Fabric B rectangles.

Sew 1/4" seam and press away from the center.

Add the Fabric C rectangles to opposite sides of above unit.

Sew and press away from center. Your block should measure 6 1/2" at this point.

Add Fabric D rectangles to top and bottom.

Sew and press away from the center.

Add Fabric E rectangles to opposite sides.

Sew and press away from center. Your block should measure 9 1/2" square at this point.

Now add Fabric F rectangles to the top and bottom.

Sew and press away from the center.

Finally, add the Fabric G rectangles to opposite sides of the block.

Sew and press away from the center.

Your block will measure 12 1/2". And your Courthouse block is complete. I hope you enjoyed a little bit simpler block this week. We only have 6 blocks to go!!

Don't forget to post your pictures on the Ruth's Stitchery Facebook page to be entered into our November drawing.
