We are halfway through our 52 blocks! Are you keeping up? If not, don't worry, work on them when you can. The patterns will be on our blog indefinitely.
Week 26 block is called School Girl's Puzzle. Half Square Triangles make up this block. As we have done in the past, we are making them slightly oversized and will trim them down.
You will need 4 colors and a background
Fabric A - Color 1
Fabric B - Color 2
Fabric C - Color 3
Fabric D - Color 4
Fabric E - Background
Cutting:
Fabric A - Cut 2 - 4" squares
Fabric B - Cut 2 - 4" squares
Fabric C - Cut 3 - 4" squares
Fabric D - Cut 3 - 4" squares
Fabric E - Cut 6 - 3 1/2" squares
Sewing:
Draw a diagonal line on the wrong sides of the Fabric B and C squares.
Place the 2 Fabric B squares right sides together with the 2 Fabric A squares as shown.
Sew 1/4" seam on both sides of the drawn line.
Place the 3 Fabric C squares right sides together with the 3 Fabric D squares as shown.
Sew 1/4" seam on both sides of the drawn line.
Cut all of these apart on the drawn line.
Press toward the darker fabric. You will have 4 slightly oversized Fabric A/B Half Square Triangles and 6 slightly oversized Fabric C/D Half Square Triangles.
Trim all of the Half Square Triangles to 3 1/2".
Layout the following pieces as shown.
Sew the top 2 pieces and bottom 2 pieces together as shown. Press toward the Fabric C/D Half Square Triangle.
Sew top and bottom together. Press seam open.
Repeat the above steps and make a second unit. These will measure 6 1/2" square.
Layout the following pieces.
Sew the top 2 pieces and the bottom 2 pieces together. Press toward the Fabric E squares.
Sew the top and bottom pieces together. Press seam open.
Repeat the above steps and make a second unit. These will measure 6 1/2" square.
Now take the 4 - 6 1/2" units and lay them out as shown.
Sew the top 2 units together and the bottom 2 units together. Press seams open.
Sew the top and bottom row together to complete the block Press seam open.
The School Girl's Puzzle block is complete!
